Timbers

At Upton Oaks we stock a range of timbers used in the making of our furniture.  While American Oak is currently our mainstay, other timbers such as Elm, Rimu, Southland Beech, Clear Pine and Macrocarpa are stocked in varying forms. The good news is, if we haven't got your preferred timber in stock, there is a vast array of timbers available through our merchants and readily available.

Finishes

Over the years we have developed a finish on our furniture that we believe is not only durable but enhances all the features and characteristics of natural wood.

Generally we use a selection of 'stains' and 'washes' that lift the beauty of the grain and give depth of colour to every piece we create.  We say generally because often our clients will choose to go with a 'natural' finish where no stain or very little, by way of a 'light wash' (very reduced or watered down stain) are used.

Every piece of furniture is coated with protective layers of lacquer to allow for life to carry on around it and to give your furniture the protection it needs, to stay looking good for many years to come.  Finally once your piece of furniture is finished with its protective coatings, we wax by hand.  

For those clients who love painted furniture we can finish for you, in the paint colour of your choice.
